Lithium up, hot topic alert!

The increase in fire-related incidents caused by lithium-ion batteries has shown just how risky mass battery charging in one area can be.

Most batteries contain a flammable electrolyte fluid which can be dangerous if not stored correctly. Incidents may occur when a battery is:

  • Pressurised
  • Made from low-quality materials
  • Left to overheat
  • Used or recharged improperly
  • Old or damaged.

Whilst there isn’t specific guidance from HSE on how to store and charge your battery-powered tools on site, at Armorgard, we have some solutions that will help you to charge batteries more safely and to help minimise the risk of fire.

Within the industry, it’s become more and more important to look at how we can store and charge batteries safely, whilst still being practical for those on site.

The stand-alone fire suppression system is automatically activated by heat or flames, resulting in an supressing vapour being released.

This ensures the unit’s surroundings and its contents are protected, reducing the risk of fire spreading at any time.

32 RCD protected individual sockets spread over 5 shelves, provides plenty of charging points for everyone on site.

Powered by a single 32A / 230V supply, it will arrive pre-assembled, ready to get your tools charging.

Our expert R&D team repeatedly tests Qpod with varying batteries, fire speeds and temperatures. Qpod has been shown to contain fires over the recommended 1.5kWh, with developments being made in real time.

The Qpod has been built to UL standards, and has a unique sealed unit system that completely contains fire and explosion. The double-walled ventilation system works to both expel gases and contain flames that can often reignite the toxic gases in the atmosphere. Unlike standard battery charging cabinets which are often only class A fire rated, it is specifically designed to reduce the risks associated with lithium-ion battery charging while remaining portable and easy to deploy.
