How the FlexiKart changed the onsite game for NG Bailey
Armorgard recently worked with NG Bailey to bring them a solution for delivering and storing steel electrical supplies such as trunking, basket, tray and ladder. Steve Attwood, Project Engineer at the Kingsland Branch in Bristol was responsible for finding the safest and most labour efficient way to deliver this to his workforce.
He found that the main issue with this type of steel electrical containment is not only how heavy it can be, but also the 3 metre lengths in which they are manufactured. Like most large projects, the project is spread over multiple floors, and accessed by a loading bay or material hoist.
For previous projects, packs of containment are loaded into a long wheel-based van using a long forked-fork lift truck, and then delivered to site where it’s cut and ‘hand-balled’ from the back of the van and into an onsite store. This process is a labour intensive job and a manual handling risk to the team unloading it, as well as the high risk of damage to the containment.
How the containment is delivered to Rexel – it is difficult to transport onto site due to its width.
On the TQEC project, all services will be on show to the end user due to there being no standard ceilings installed. Meaning it has to be manufactured, stored and delivered to site over multiple floors and installed with no risk of damage.
NG Bailey found our catalogue online and decided to try the Amorgard FlexiKart. This unit offered a secure wheelable base and proprietary retractable straps to ensure the load is secured. Another benefit of the FlexiKart was the forklift sids which offer a safe offloading solution.
Since finding this solution, NG Bailey and Rexel have purchased 8 of the FlexiKarts, to streamline the process of delivering containment to site.
With pre-loaded FlexiKarts, this makes offloading quick and efficient onsite.
The FlexiKarts are then wheeled up to the material hoist, easily turned 90 degrees and pushed into the hoist. Once reaching the correct floor, the Flexikart is then pushed to the workplace either to be left in storage and easily moved if necessary or offloaded to smaller storage racks.
Once emptied, the FlexiKarts are then returned to Rexel for loading of the next organised deliveries.
Steve told us that “Since using the FlexiKarts, there has been zero manual lifting involved.” and that thanks to the FlexiKart, “The congestion of our busy site yard is kept to a minimum.” NG Bailey and Rexel will continue to use the FlexiKart on future projects.
